When it comes to modern interior design, I actually think that I have become somewhat of an expert in understanding how to perfectly capture a client's specific vision. In general, interior design ideas for living room are all pretty similar -- you can't really get around your typical couches, coffee tables, area rugs etc. without a whole lot of variation. I try to bring a unique touch to my designs through artwork, because those are elements that really stand out and can transform a room. As you can see, in this space we went for a minimalist interior design with a monochromatic color palette of white and grey. The real pizazz is brought in through the two huge pieces that we hung on really the only empty wall space in the room. Between windows, doors, and the artwork, you are left with very complete looking walls.

I am a decorator, and this is a project that was completed recently. It highlights the newest trends in modern interior design, including the mixing of colors, textures, and styles. The open floor plan of this house meant we would be working with many different style elements. Our clients had modern living room ideas in mind, and we were able to bring them all to life. The living room seating is a mix and match of whites and darks that give the room a casual, comfortable feel. Seating is relaxed, and the colors were kept mostly neutral but for the bright artwork. Other interior design styles that were chosen included a heavy centerpiece table in the living area and funky floor rug. The dark wood planks in the living area complement the slate gray ceramic tiles in both the dining area and the entryway. Sculptures help to add a personal touch as does carefully chosen art pieces to hang on walls.

This stunning living room is certainly modern interior design at its absolute finest. Between the awesome architecture of the vaulted ceilings with contrasting wood beams, to the gorgeous modern fireplace designs and sleek granite floors, I think that this design is certainly the stuff of dreams. I would love to be able to recreate it at our house but I don't know that we could achieve the same look without the architectural elements. Sure you could do a simple black and white color palette with gold and rattan accents, but I am not sure it would give off the same modern home design as this space. Do you all agree or disagree? I have always loved working with modern interior design because it allows you to be much more creative and eclectic than some of your more traditional styles. I definitely think that modern interior design has a bad reputation of being cold and harsh, but I think that these spaces are certainly some of the coziest rooms that I have ever created. The key to achieving that quintessential inviting feel while using modern living room design is to incorporate those elements that make you, personally, feel at home. For this client it meant installing a gas fireplace, incorporating cozy pillows on the couch and a plush area rug beneath, and adding some of their favorite artwork and trinkets. You can use contemporary decor as the base, then add touches of your personality to make the space your own and something that is a reflection of you and your passions.
