I am always looking for home decor ideas for living room designs because I really don't want any two spaces that I create to be anything alike (this is a personal challenge to myself). Of course living room wall decor and artwork is usually more personalized to the homeowner because these spaces are definitely a reflection of their personality, likes, dislikes, etc. I always want these designs to feel cozy and inviting, and to showcase what makes them tick so to speak. With that being said, whether you love traditional styles or are more into modern living room ideas like we used here, each space always should begin with a backdrop of neutral wall paint, and classic furniture pieces that will not go out of style quickly (they are expensive after all).
My favorite home decor ideas for living room are ones like these that are a careful balance between contemporary and timeless. I hate to use the word "traditional" when it comes to living room decor ideas, because it brings to mind stuffy colonial architecture and furniture that looks too nice to sit on and enjoy. I much prefer spaces like this that have an elegant feel that looks like you clearly put time and effort into coming up with the design, but that is still very cozy and inviting at the same time. The designer who created the space in these living room pictures had a great grasp on how to balance these two concepts in a way that feels trendy but classic at the same time.
So many people get overwhelmed by having to come up with home decor ideas for living room because it is such a high traffic area, but I actually think that this is one of the easiest places to decorate because it is essentially a window into your/your family's personality. As such, living room decor should be very personal and a true reflection of what you and your loved ones value the most in terms of color, art, and comfort. I absolutely love a blue and white color palette because the shade range reminds me of all the wonderful times spent as a family on the beach. For this reason, I wanted to make all of our new living room ideas 2020 focused around these shades (but not in an overwhelming way).
I'm not quite sure why people get overwhelmed by home decor ideas for living room because I feel like this is one of the less challenging spaces to create. A living room certainly sets the tone for your overall home design so it is important to establish the right style there, but I think that these spaces tend to be blander than say a kitchen or bedroom and, thus, are easier to prepare for. When in doubt (or even just because), I usually set the foundation of the design off with a nice neutral color palette that is pretty noncommittal. This allows you to switch up aspects of the design season by season or as you find things that you like.
I am realizing that home decor ideas for living room spaces certainly vary widely from home to home. For some silly reason, I thought that scanning the internet for some living room furniture ideas would be a quick and easy thing that would yield instant results. Well that is both true and false. I found so much design inspiration that it was almost overwhelming to me! As you can tell from these photos of our finished living room design, we opted for a modern country chic kind of look. What I mean by that is that we kept the rustic architectural features that came with the home (the stacked stone fireplace, paneled ceiling, beams etc.) but went with a much more modern vibe for our furniture choices.
When it comes to generating new and unique home decor ideas for living room makeovers I will be the first to admit that I am guilty of trying to incorporate about 10 different styles and trends in one place. When it comes to room design, I really am not one to settle on one particular "look" so to speak, but rather combine an eclectic mix of styles, decor themes, and color palettes in order to create a space that is a reflection of both the client and of me as their designer. These two drastically different homes are a great wealth of living room design ideas that could easily be translated to just about any style motif.
