Bedroom Ideas
Ive been browsing living room paint ideas that feature somewhat unique colors that arent found in a lot of the rooms I see in design magazines. I am bored of the white on white color palettes or the deep navy accent walls. Ideally, I want something that is neutral, but that still has a notable style to it. After looking around this site, I came across this room, and I really like the combination of the buttery tan shade against the thick white crown molding and trim work. The overall look seems way different than most of the paint color ideas I have been seeing, and something I definitely think would blend in with a ton of my traditional decor.

With this photo as my inspiration, I am going to find wall paint colors in a similar shade, but add a little bit more paneling details just to make the space a bit more formal. I love a classic chair rail as a way to break up bold colors like this, and add a bit of architectural detailing to spice things up. The vibrant green in the mantle topiaries provide a nice accent shade that I will bring in through throw pillows and artwork.

Living room paint colors are one of those things that are so hard to narrow down because they can make such a big design impact on the rest of the home. Todays most popular floor plans feature an open layout that encourages all rooms to flow together as opposed to partitioning off the kitchen, living room and den. For this reason it is important to keep your wall paint colors cohesive in each of the zones to avoid a mismatched look. I advise that you begin in the living room when selecting the right room color ideas for your space. This area is often the heart of the home, so you want all other color palettes to radiate from this area. The safest choice is obviously a neutral tone like in this gorgeous modern living room design. The understated taupe color is easy to blend with nearly any accent shade and would be easy to carry into a kitchen or adjoining family room. The homeowners paired the shade with dark furniture and bright pops of primary colors in the artwork, but this shade could work just as well will white couches and earthy accent tones.

As a designer, we are constantly trying out new products and materials trying to find the best items for our designs. People often ask me for my thoughts on the best brand of wall paint colors, and I always say behr. One of the primary reasons that they get my vote, it the wide variety of formulas that they offer. Each area of the home requires a different finish and level of durability. For example, bathroom paint colors need a formula that is resistant to mold growth, is easy to clean, and will not run or fade in humid conditions. Not only this, but you want to find the perfect shade to accent all of the fixtures and finishes in the space while promoting that relaxing feeling that everybody wants in a master bath. Luckily, behr paint colors offers a bathroom paint that will hold up to the conditions of the space and is available in hundreds of gorgeous hues. I love this light dusty blue shade that we chose for this traditional master bath remodel. It perfectly accents the marble tiling and beautifully panelled walls, and is durable enough to hold up over time.

So many homeowners are afraid to play with wall paint colors. Todays most popular trends often feature neutral color palettes and a lot of white on white designs. Personally, I love to bringing bright bold hues to my walls because I think they make a very stylish statement and can infuse a space with personality. I think that the safest palette to experiment with is blue paint colors. Of course, there is a wide range of shades in the blue family, some so light they are nearly neutral, and other deep shades that make a striking focal point in a room. For our home, I decided on a unique cornflower blue shade and incorporated it throughout the kitchen paint colors, dining area, and living room. Although it is a bold shade, I feel that it perfectly accents our homes unique Spanish architecture and adds an unexpected twist to traditional decor. In order to tie the shade in with the rest of the space, I incorporated the same shade into the mosaic tile backsplash and various textiles throughout the space.

A perfect room colour palette is one of those things that can make or break a design. All the time you spend on selecting the perfect furniture, coordinating textiles, and unique decorative accents can be ruined by poorly selected wall paint colors. My advice to anybody searching for the right shade for their space, is to bring swatches of items you will have in the room with you to the store. This could be pieces of fabric, a small piece of artwork, or samples of the flooring or carpet. This will make it so much easier to weed through all of the interior paint ideas in the store, and narrow it down to a few options that may work in your space. Next, be sure to bring home samples of your top three or four colors and actually paint them on the walls in your room. There is no better way to narrow down your shade range, than actually seeing how it will look against the other decor elements in your space. Plus, room colour can look so different in various settings due to lighting variations, reflections off floor coverings and a number of other factors.

One of my favorite areas to get creative with wall painting ideas is in the master suite. Most people want to stick to a fairly subtle and neutral color palette in the bedroom because they want it to be a relaxing space. While it may seem that you cannot do a lot with wall paint colors in those light beige, taupe and white tones, there is actually a lot of area for creativity. The key is to play with different shades in various areas of the room. This could be painting the ceiling a light grey instead of the walls, or using a very subtle stripe pattern to add the faintest hint of design interest. This room is a great example of how you can bring a little bit of personality to your bedroom colors even if you prefer those more neutral hues. The homeowners decided on two different cool grey tones, and utilized one on the walls and one on the ceiling. The combination generated a very subtle color variation that gives the space almost a cacoon-like feeling. The result is a contemporary retreat that anybody could unwind in.
