Do you think that these living room furniture ideas are too "old lady" for a twenty something year old guy? I have been tasked with the job of trying to help my brother pick out home decor ideas for living room in his new apartment, but he is about 12 years younger than me so I am not really sure what is "in" for that age bracket. This type of style is what I really like in my twenties (and still like now actually), but I do have what some people may consider to be a "girly" style. I thought that if we switched up the living room colors and maybe painted the walls in a dark navy or something, that this could be appropriate for a bachelor pad as well. I haven't showed him these photos yet to see what he thinks, but do you all think that I am way off base?
Truthfully, I was super intimidated trying to narrow down living room furniture ideas for our new home because I felt like it was such a huge decision that could certainly impact the overall look and feel of the rest of our house (we have a pretty open concept layout in there). I always knew the living room design style that I wanted to achieve (that mix between traditional elegance and trendier contemporary pieces), but I was not quite sure how to achieve it from scratch. As you can see from the photos, we went with simple beige tufted couches as the base of the design. Those were the hardest thing to choose because I knew they would really set the tone for the space. Once I had chosen those, the rest of the sitting room ideas just flowed from there.
When my family began looking at living room furniture ideas, all we really knew was that we wanted pieces that would complement what we already owned. The grey vinyl floor planks you see here have been in place for a few years, and we're happy with the low maintenance flooring and also the bright white paint on the walls. We decided to go with modern living room ideas that would give a streamlined look to our apartment. The U-shaped leather couch pairs well with the flooring, metal ceiling fans, and black and white artwork on the wall. We chose the white centerpiece coffee table because it pulls in the colors from the walls and white and gray TV mount. Our living room interior design includes a cutaway ceiling and smooth pile throw rug, also in white. Our floor plan is open by design, and with the changes, now our living room smoothly flows into the dining and kitchen areas.
Comfortable seating is not something our home was known for until this remodeling job was complete. We browsed living room furniture ideas online and off, hoping to find colors and styles that would match our wood ceilings and floors. Our room is narrow and long, so our options seemed limited. By looking at pictures of decorated living rooms, we broadened our options, suddenly finding many pieces that would work. This dark brown L-shaped sofa stacked with pillows is cozy and big enough for our entire family. The modern square table holds drinks, magazines, and other items needed when binging on Netflix. When perusing living room ideas 2022, we found accent chairs could draw room colors together, and that's how we ended up with the cute multicolored swivel chair in front of the television. It's all so comfy!
I never realized how hard it would be to pick out living room furniture ideas starting with nothing. For all the homes or apartments we have moved into in the past, we have had odds and ends cheap furniture that gave some direction for how to decorate a living room. However, after we bought our first house, we decided to ditch all of the old junky stuff that we collected throughout college and finally buy some "grown up" pieces. I have always thought that all white color palettes like this make beautiful living rooms because it is such a clean and timeless foundation to just about any design you may want to play around with over the years. You can easily add throw pillows, artwork and cool decorative accents to change up the space as often as you would like.
I am trying to find some living room furniture ideas in high end magazines that I can replicate using IKEA furniture. Yes, I realize that this is a tall order, but I feel like I could imitate living room pictures like this with some of those simple modern style pieces that you can buy there for ultra cheap. I am sure that the furniture is this particular home cost thousands of dollars. But if I bought a simple black or charcoal grey sectional (rather than leather) and accented it with a pair of white armchairs like they did, I believe I would already have the foundation of their living room decor ideas. From that point, I would find some simple grey drapes (again really cheap at IKEA), paint the walls and trim a rich which shade, and then accent the design with navy blue textiles and some cool artwork.
