A large kitchen island with seating is an absolute must if you have a family as large as ours. With two adults and four kids around the same age, I feel like we are constantly in here cooking, eating, doing homework, or just hanging out together. Thank goodness I had the foresight to tell my designer to prioritize adding a large kitchen island to the center of the room when we built this home. I can safely say that this area is by far my favorite in the house, mostly because of all the memories that we make in here. There is plenty of room for all of us to be in here together as well as any friends or family that happen to be over.
The main thing on my wife's wish list for this new house was a large kitchen island with seating, so when I began working with our architect that was the first thing that we added to the space. The entire room was essentially built around these kitchen island designs that we saw in the Restoration Hardware catalog last month. We have tried traditional decor in the past but, for this house, we wanted everything to be a lot more modern and streamlined. Our kids have grown up and moved out, so there will be far less clutter around. We felt like this home was finally our time to create a space that was very serene and tranquil while still incorporating all of the trendiest kitchen island ideas 2020 (among others) that our kids would not destroy haha.
I am contemplating adding a large kitchen island with seating during our renovation, but I would love to know how many of you actually use them and if you think that they are valuable. Right now I am planning on installing modern kitchen cabinets like these brown ones, as well as chrome fixtures and accents. The floors will be a light colored tile and the ceilings are vaulted (so I little bit different than this inspiration photo). I am thinking that we could add in a very similar kitchen island with seating to this one right in the center of the room to balance it out.
When we first built this kitchen about twenty years ago, a large kitchen island with seating was at the top of my wishlist. I still really like the layout of our kitchen, but I am wondering if it is too outdated for todays trends (I obviously know that the color palette and decor is). It seems like kitchen island ideas are still something that people are into but I wasn't sure if the shape of ours will date our new kitchen. If it would, I could always completely remove it and put a large rectangular one in the center of the room where the current one is located. The only stipulation is that we will need a kitchen island with seating for 4 in order to accommodate our family and frequent guests.
I think that a large kitchen island with seating is an absolute must for anybody with kids. We are constantly using ours for casual dinners, to sit and do art projects or work on homework, and as a great buffet for entertaining with grown-ups (I love making a giant charcuterie board and wine tasting station). It is such an essential part of our home, that I would pretty much base any future kitchen layout ideas around this single element. After a few years of living with this piece, there are a couple of things that I think are musts if you are building a brand new one. First, I definitely prefer rectangular for symmetry.
This large kitchen island with seating is probably my favorite one that I have found on here so far and will probably serve as the inspiration for our next renovation project. For years now I have thought that a white kitchen island would be the perfect addition to our current space because it would make it look like a brand new home but without spending the money to replace our cabinets. Beyond the decor factor, I also think that one would add a lot of value and functionality to the space. We do not have a ton of square footage so I had begun to look at kitchen island ideas for small kitchens, but all of the galleries that I looked through seemed so lame to me.
