It is so nice seeing kitchen island ideas for small kitchens on here because I tend to get discouraged at the size of our home. Don't get me wrong -- I really love our little cottage and the location especially. If I have to have a small kitchen island so that my daughter can go to the best schools and live near her cousins then I am certainly willing to make that sacrifice. Despite this compromise, I still want to make sure that my kitchen is beautifully designed. While my home is not as big as the one in this photos, I really like this kitchen island ideas the they used and, if I modified the design a little bit, I think I could even fit it in our floor plan. This home is also making me want to paint our kitchen cabinets to make the small space feel even more open too.

So many people think that you have to look to small homes to find good kitchen island ideas for small kitchens, but I don't like to limit myself to that box. I actually get the most inspiration for my challenging layouts from larger and more luxurious homes that oftentimes had very creative and high end designers working on the styling. Whenever I translate a design from a larger home, I just scale down the kitchen island cabinets or adjust the length or width to work within my layout. The very uniquely shaped island in this kitchen is actually one that I think could work very well in a smaller home. Most of today's trending kitchen island ideas 2020 feature simple rectangular units that can be hard to fit into a challenging layout. When you incorporate angles and different sections like this designer did, you make it much easier to work into unconventional floor plans.

I am so impressed with all the kitchen island ideas for small kitchens on here because, although I absolutely love an island, I had always thought that our home was just too small to be able to incorporate one. My dream has always been to have a home with a kitchen island with seating so that my husband or kids could sit and chat with me while I make dinner. I love to cook, but it can get lonely being in there by myself for long periods of time while I meal prep. I really like sleek contemporary design, so even something very simple like these small kitchen island ideas here would suit my style very well. I am pretty sure that, if I made it narrow enough, I could fit something like this in our home.

I would love to know if anybody on here has advice on how to convert this large and beautiful design into something on a more limited scale that incorporates similar kitchen island ideas for small kitchens. I have found that it is really hard to find photos on here (or elsewhere really) that show smaller scale homes that still look just as high end as some of the more lavish designs like this one. I absolutely adore their kitchen island with storage, but there is no way that it would fit within the confines of our small townhouse. Despite those limitations, I still want to try to imitate or recreate a similar style but on a significantly smaller scale. I am not sure where to begin planning out the small kitchen design with island on my own though. Do I cut down the island width or the length, and do I create a peninsula out of it? These are all questions that I have if anybody is willing to answer.

I think that these slim-lined kitchen island ideas for small kitchens are a great addition to just about any space no matter the size of the home. Sure, something narrow and discreet like this is absolutely perfect for small kitchen layouts because they don't take up a lot of room visually or square footage-wise, but they still provide a good bit of extra storage and counter space. But I actually think they can be the perfect thing to add to larger kitchens as well because they allow for a more streamlined traffic flow throughout the space and can even be lined up to create the double island effect that is trending so much lately. In that case, I would probably dedicate one to kitchen island ideas with seating for guests and the other as purely additional prep space (maybe even with a bar sink).
