Sometimes I find home decor inspiration in the oddest places, and that was certainly the case for my latest small kitchen design with island. Believe it or not, I actually used these photos as building blocks to plan out my layout even though we only had about a third of the square footage. People wonder how I can translate this photo to small kitchen layouts, but it is actually quite easy if you just match color palettes, patterns, and material (when possible).What I really liked about this space was the color palette and the use of lighter stone colors throughout. So I imitated these colors and materials as well as larger items like the kitchen island cabinets but translated it on a much smaller scale in this home.

I am so happy that I took a chance glancing through this gallery of beachfront mansions because I actually found the perfect inspo pics for our small kitchen design with island that we are doing our hardest to plan and remodel on our own. For some silly reason, my husband and I thought that a small kitchen remodel would be easy to do ourselves because it is not that big of a space, right? Wrong. I never realized how much thought and detail goes into planning out one of these projects, and it is probably even harder when you don't have that much space to work with. That is why I think that this simple white kitchen design would work so well for our home. Of course the home in these photos is not considered small by any means, but it was the inspiration for the kitchen island that we are in the process of having built in our house. If you chopping off the end of the kitchen in these photos and made it a little bit narrower you would basically have the layout of our home. We are going to add an island much like they did here, in order to provide more seating and some prep space (we are sorely lacking in counter space). It is so fun working as an interior designer because you are constantly jumping from one project to the next. The ebb and flow of layouts, styles, and architectural details makes for a very rewarding profession. My favorite projects are usually spacious homes that have unique kitchen island designs, probably because that is my most used spot in my own house. I am always trying to add the latest and greatest things to my home, whether that be tile designs that I happened to come across in small kitchen ideas 2020 or a great dining table that I picked up at the local vintage shop.

So I came on here looking for some type of small kitchen design with island and somehow came away with these photos as my inspiration for our design. Now I know that this is the farthest thing from a small kitchen design, but hear me out on this. I am thinking that we do mostly rustic wood cabinets like this for the main portion of our kitchen, then we add in these touches of black in the island that separates the kitchen from the living and dining areas. From what I have seen, most small kitchen island ideas don't use the contrasting finish trend that is so popular these days, but I think it could work for our home. We have a similar stone fireplace and our furniture actually looks a lot like this as well.

Whenever you are trying to figure out a small kitchen design with island, I always suggest find a photo of a design that you like (regardless of the size) and then pulling different elements from there to use within your dimensions. For example, this kitchen island with seating is definitely too large for the space that we have; however, I really like the concept of the sleek modern-stye waterfall design and the marble pattern on the entire surface. This would be perfect in the challenging square-shaped room I am trying to design because it would provide a nice focal point as well as an area of function. Just visualize elements like this with in a different kitchen design for small space and expand your mind to consider the possibilities.
