A gorgeous pool waterfall is one of those landscaping features that you certainly don't need, but that make a huge decorative impact if you decide to install them. Whether you prefer a simple faucet design like this or would rather a large waterfall, these elements are a wonderful way to accent existing or new inground pools. They add a lovely visual appeal as well as the relaxing sound of running water. Unfortunately, decorative water features cannot be added to above ground pools, so make sure that the style you have in your yard is conducive before you do too much research into the design. Also keep an eye on scale, you wouldn't want a gigantic waterfall to overwhelm a small lap pool, in the same way that you need to avoid making the feature so small that you cannot tell it is there amidst a huge resort-style design. Local landscaping or pool stores are a great resource if you are unsure of exactly what your property needs. Always consult an expert before you install anything to ensure that the products you select will work with your particular design.
Great pool designs that blend effortlessly into the landscape are hard to come by, especially in our town. A lot of our neighbors have inground pools, but they are those boring rectangular varieties with bright aqua liners that stand out like a sore thumb against our beautiful coastal landscape. We wanted to add a pool to our yard but in a way that felt like it was part of our existing garden and that coordinated well with the exterior Cape Code architecture. The design flexibility of fiberglass pools made it the natural choice for our yard because we could create this sweeping curved layout that mimics the lines of the edge of the property. Furthermore, we were able to select a color palette that perfectly matches the color of the ocean that you can see in the distance along the back edge of our yard. We felt that this choice would help draw attention to the lovely ocean views, while making it a decorative accent to our landscape. We couldn't be more please with how the final look turned out.
When we bought this house years ago we knew that we would never use the huge yard that it features, so we wanted to turn it into some sort of largefiberglass inground pools. A lot of the designs that we looked at were too boring and looked as though we just plopped a rectangular pool haphazardly into our large backyard. Instead, we wanted something that blended with the modern architecture of our home and was a really cool design feature on its own. We decided to bite the bullet and hire a designer to help us figure out, not only how to make it look elegant, but how to minimize the inground pool cost while maximizing the money we do spend. I absolutely love the design they came up with because it looks like a resort pool but in a residential landscape. Within the geometric layout there are fountain water features, a shallow lounging area, a built in spa and enough space for lap swimming. The surrounding pool deck blends perfectly with the stucco exterior of our home and makes the entire design look like one cohesive part of the property.
A swimming pool waterfall is the cherry on the top to any fantastic outdoor entertaining space. Nothing could be more relaxing or luxurious than the sound of naturally trickling water while you dine with friends and family in the backyard or lounge poolside after a long day. I know it seems like these fantastic landscaping features are only found on lavish estates like this house, but it is actually quite easy to incorporate into your average residential design. Any type of outdoor pool can house a waterfall feature, the key is determining how best to incorporate it in order for it to look like a seamless part of the landscape as opposed to an afterthought. Adding one as a transition between main pool and neighboring spa like in this home is always a fantastic idea and makes the entire look more cohesive. Alternatively, it is easy to simply add some large landscaping rocks beside inground pools and then install the water feature within them to look like a naturally occurring waterfall. The options are absolutely endless.
My partner and I talked for months about installing a pool and spa into the backyard area of our townhouse before we settled on this design. Living downtown you rarely see an urban home that has a feature like this in a private yard. We felt that, not only would we be able to do a ton more entertaining outside, but it would be a fantastic selling point once we decide to upgrade to something larger in the suburbs in 5 years. I had seen a few designs for small pools with just a single lap lane that are good for long and narrow yards like ours, but I didn't want the new addition to feel like an afterthought or that we had settled. We decided to just go for it and install a full size pool with attached hot tub then cover the rest of the yard in beautiful coordinating hardscaping. To avoid that fake look of most inground pools that have a generic aqua liner, we went with a lagoon style design with a deep blue finish to look like a large pond in the backyard. I think it made the entire look a bit more elegant and seamlessly blended to our existing landscaping.
