When my wife first brought up the notion of putting in a small kitchen island with seating I, quite frankly, thought that it would look really dumb (sorry Karen). But now that the entire project is complete, I am completely sold on how it looks. I had always thought that kitchen island ideas with seating could only be achieved in really large spaces and with dining table sized units. Sure this may be excessive, it just did not seem attainable for our home. Leave it to Karen to make even the impossible possible, because that women worked on her computer planning this layout for hours and hours and finally came up with this plan. I cannot believe how amazing our small kitchen remodel turned out and, in my opinion, she should pursue a side career as an interior designer.
I love this small kitchen island with seating because it takes advantage of the little space that they do have and incorporates some awesome contemporary design elements that accent the rest of the decor well. I have been struggling with our own small kitchen design because we really wanted to incorporate an island, but I just assumed that we would not have the space. However, now that I know that something this narrow really doesn't look that weird, I feel like we can go for it, especially doing one of these waterfall styles using the countertop material. Honestly, these are probably awesome kitchen island ideas no matter what size your space is if you are into contemporary design like this.
Everyday I continue to be amazed at just how useful our new small kitchen island with seating is. We use that thing for everything from everyday prep work and baking with the kids, to eating lunch or doing homework. It is one of those small kitchen ideas that really helps to maximize the space that you do have without visually taking away from the rest, you know? The only regret that we have is not putting some sort of trash can in the actual island. It gets quite dirty on that counter and I feel like we are constantly brushing crumbs off. With all that being said though, I really would do your best to get creative and try to fit some sort of kitchen island designs into your space no matter how large or small.
I am so excited about this small kitchen island with seating that we actually bought online from Pottery Barn. To be honest with you, I always thought that those free standing put-it-together yourself islands were just dumb and a waste of money and space. But, after moving into this house, we really wanted to have an island but wasn't sure if it would work in our layout. Rather than taking a risk and spending the money to build in a permanent kitchen island with seating, we figured we would spend a couple hundred bucks and pick this thing up at the outlet nearby us. I actually love how it looks because it goes with the California rustic style design we have going on in here. I can see these becoming really popular in small kitchen ideas 2020 because they are fairly low cost and temporary if you don't like it.
When we looked at this house I honestly thought that this small kitchen island with seating was stupid because of it's size. I figured that there was no way that we would ever use it because of the miniature size. I mean I appreciated that they were able to fit one into a kitchen design for small space, but at what cost you know? Well I have to eat crow or whatever the saying is, because we use this thing all the time! Sometimes I will sit down with my coffee to scroll through Instagram in the peace and quiet in the morning, or my kids sit there and work on art or homework after school. Moral of the story is that you should never scoff at any type of small kitchen island ideas with seating even if they are miniature sized.
I am so happy with the size of our small kitchen island with seating because it is large enough to fit four stools but still slim enough that it doesn't take up a ton of room in our floorpan. From what I can tell from looking at so many small kitchen island ideas, the most important thing to consider when planning yours out is scale. If you have a miniature island in a huge kitchen it looks just as odd as if you have a gigantic island in a very small kitchen. So keep this in mind if you are trying to figure out your dimensions on your own (or confirming what your designer came up with). Of course also think about what you will actually use the piece for. We knew we wanted a kitchen island with seating for 4 because we planned to use it as our primary eating area. If you will use it for prep work you may want it wider.
