I have been looking into the typical kitchen renovation cost so that I can try to price out what we want to do in here and figure out a realistic budget. As you can probably tell from these photos, this place has not been touched in years. In fact, we were probably due for a pretty big kitchen remodel quite some time ago if I am being honest. My first inclination is to just gut this entire place, but the cost of taking something on like that scares me a little bit. In a perfect world, basically the only think that I would keep is the floors. Unfortunately, I know that those gorgeous kitchen makeovers that you often see on here are certainly not cheap so I am trying to figure out where we will get the biggest bang for our buck. What are your thoughts?
Without saying exactly what our kitchen renovation cost, I would like to offer some tips and tricks that we learned a long the way to stay on (or even under) budget. First of all, some people would disagree with me, but I think that the cost of new kitchen cabinets was totally worth it because they were the single most important item to reviving the space. The units we had before were just gross and dingy, not to mention short and doing nothing to accentuate the tall ceilings in here. Adding these new modern units that go to the ceiling and have lighted display cabinets totally transformed the place. So much so, that we were able to skimp on some of the other materials that we would have used in the kitchen renovation and it still looks just as good.
If I did not have to worry at all about kitchen renovation cost, then I would totally gut our house and recreate this room in a second. I love everything about this ultra modern space because it feels so cool and trendy, but still adheres to most of the principles and trends of all of the small kitchen ideas 2022 that I see on here. Unfortunately though, I know that doing something like this in our house would cost an arm and a leg because nothing that we currently have is conducive to somehow cheaply transforming it into this. Our home is pretty traditional right now, so the cabinets certainly would not look good even if we painted them the same color, and we would have to swap out the countertops, tile, fixtures, everything. With the average kitchen remodel cost being in the tens of thousands of dollars, this may need to be a project that we save up for over the years.
I have heard several people say that the average kitchen renovation cost is above ten thousand dollars, which was just so far outside the realm of what we wanted to spend in here. For that reason, I did a ton of research to figure out what techniques and projects we could do to keep our kitchen remodel cost down while still creating the beautiful result that we wanted. The first major hurdle was painting the cabinets. That saved us a ton of money and totally revived the outdated look of our home. With a clean white palette, the other elements of our small kitchen remodel looked even better and more high end. We got new appliances on sale, and my husband and I installed the subway tile backsplash ourselves. The most costly element was the countertops, but they make such a huge difference that I don't even mind the price.
I don't even want to know how much this kitchen renovation cost because I want to basically copy and paste the entire thing into our home on a relatively modest budget haha. I love everything about this kitchen design, from the sleek white shaker cabinets to the casual rustic island and funky mixed metal light fixtures. We already have fairly similar white cabinetry, so we have that going for us. I think that the major items that we would need to add are the island, new countertops, light fixtures, and maybe handles and knobs just to make it look as identical as possible. We took on bathroom renovations ourselves last year and had a lot of fun, so I feel like we may actually be equipped to take this on. I will post some photos if we end up doing the project!
In most cases, a kitchen renovation cost more than pretty much any other project in the home. For that reason, I wanted to be especially careful when planning out our kitchen remodel on a budget, so that I could be sure we were maximizing the result while keeping prices relatively low. I knew from the moment that we moved into the house that I wanted to maintain some of the elements of the existing traditional kitchen, but add some life and flare through more eclectic and contemporary details. We managed to achieve this by swapping out small elements like glass cabinet doors, light fixtures, countertops, and even hardware. Luckily we managed to stay under budget and still had a great design when we came out of it.
