I have never been afraid to incorporate bold small kitchen design ideas into a home, no matter how tiny the space is. Believe it or not, when we got started this was a much smaller space (we knocked down some walls to open it up) and devoid of any of these cool kitchen design ideas 2022 that we transformed it with. Admittedly this was a complete gut job from top to bottom. I already mentioned that we opened up the space by taking down a wall, but we also ripped out the cabinets and countertops to begin with a clean slate. You could certainly use these same kitchen design ideas for small kitchens on a budge, just get creative with your materials and try to recycle major items (think cabinets, countertops, floors) if possible.
When it comes to small kitchen design ideas, I like to treat these spaces just as I would another other home with an average sized room. For example, when planning out my layouts and looking for inspiration, I really don't search for small kitchen design images, but rather any type of space large or small that I would love to replicate certain elements. The kitchen in this photo is one of my all time favorite designs, and one that I refer to a lot when I am planning out a new space for a client (no matter the size of the room). The white kitchen decor ideas they used here would be absolutely fantastic to make a smaller space feel more open and functional. If nothing else, white cabinetry that reaches to the ceiling and lightly stained floors would make an instant decor success.
I am constantly being asked for small kitchen design ideas that incorporate other styles than the typical all white homes that you see lately. Believe it or not, you can do more things with small kitchen layouts that install simple white cabinetry, tile, and a neutral countertop. Although using a monochromatic light color palette is certainly a fabulous technique for making smaller spaces appear larger, it is not the be all and end all for kitchen design. I have done a tone of kitchen makeovers in fairly limited floor plans that have all of the gorgeous dark rich shades that you see in huge mansions. This particular space is a fantastic example of how dark stained cabinetry still looks fantastic (and not too overwhelming) in a small space.
I know that when people think about small kitchen design ideas, they usually wouldn't even consider adding bold architectural details or funky tile patterns. But I'm not like all designers. I think that these kitchen cabinets pictures deserve a closer look because of the gorgeous detailing unconventional coloring (hello warm beige, I haven't see you lately), and awesome tile accents that we installed throughout. Even though I try to stick with neutral shades when it comes to decorating a small space, I am not afraid to play around with pattern and texture in order to bring a bit of playfulness and pizazz to the design. Have fun with your small kitchen remodel ideas, and incorporate elements like the wood panelling on the ceiling above the island, that make your home different than all the rest.
When I say that I had to get creative with small kitchen design ideas for this tiny home, I mean I had to get CREATIVE with this challenging space. I don't know if you can tell from the kitchen design pictures that I have posted here, but this room could not have been more than like 120 square feet and one of those walls is completely covered by a large picture window. In order to fit with the scale of the space and get as much usable storage in as I could, I found miniature custom cabinetry that fit perfectly with the floor plan. Originally I was going to call with all white kitchen cabinet ideas for small kitchens just to keep it feeling open, but I did want to add that fabulous modern touch that I am know for, so we installed wood panels on a few of the doors flanking the range as well as on the island.
When it comes to small kitchen design ideas, I would have to say that my personal style is probably a bit bolder than other designers. As you can see from these kitchen pictures in my portfolio, I love playing around with unexpected materials, unique trends, and unconventional layouts even in my lower square footage homes. Just because you are working with a smaller footprint does not mean that you can't incorporate the same awesomely unique touches that other homeowners can. I like to call this kitchen my dream guide for small kitchen ideas 2022 because I incorporated so many cool features like a wooden ceiling feature, awesome mosaic tile backsplash, contrasting cabinetry colors etc. that many people are afraid to bring in to more limited floor plans.
